Staff Participate in ‘Rock and Water’ professional learning (photos in Term 2 photos)

Sacred Heart staff have valued the skills developed by the Rock and Water program over many years. Rock and Water is a huge tool in our Social and Emotional Skills explicit teaching. It was great for teachers and learning support staff to join together on Monday to work with Brain and Sandy again, so that all staff are familiar with the program’s language, purpose and activities.

“Rock and water decreases bullying and depressive feelings, and increases self-esteem, self-regulation and social acceptance building self-confidence, self-respect and self-reflection

Basically, Rock and Water is a course that is delivered over a number of lessons to students in primary or high school. A series of exercises and games are practised to develop confidence and self-reflection. The games are diverse and many have a martial arts origin. The program has a strong appeal to students  who enjoy the active nature of the many games and drills. Students learn to  stand strong, negotiate using “rock” or “water” verbal approaches, walk away from trouble, consider alternatives to aggression, and develop understandings about who they are, their intuitive feelings and their personal direction.’

Da Vinci Decathlon

Students from Year 5 and 6 have been invited to nominate for a place in the teams for the Da Vinci Decathlon on Tuesday 9th May. Paper notes are due back on Friday.

The decathlon is an enrichment activity for enthusiastic, creative and highly capable students, who are flexible learners, cooperative workers and able to work under the pressure of limited time frames.

Yours faithfully,
