AROUND THE SCHOOL
National Ride2School Day
Friday 13th of March (tomorrow) is National Ride2School Day. This event is organized by the Physical Activity Foundation of Australia. Sacred Heart are regular participants in these great community events and we always have a wonderful turn out on the mornings with people riding, walking and scootering to school.
We are encouraging as many students and parents to again get as involved as they can. We will have our regular walking and riding starting positions ready with teachers and helpers on the morning to meet you and then guide us to school in groups. A copy of our meeting places is below and hard copies will be in the front office.
We will meet at the starting places from 8:15am and then head to school from around 8:25am.
When at school there will be cut fruit for all students to help promote a healthy lifestyle and we will have music pumping to celebrate our arriving students and make the morning fun.
All participating students will go in a draw to win some great prizes at the assembly on Friday afternoon.
This is a fantastic event and we thank you for your continued support in highlighting the importance of physical exercise in all our lives.

Peer Support Session 3 Including Others
In our session this Friday in Stronger Together - our Peer Support module for our students, considers the relationships that students develop and how they can change over time. It looks at the role they play in contributing to these relationships and how the use of power, trust and honesty can change a relationship. Parents of participating students might like to talk about the different relationships that you have or their relationships with family and other friends outside school.

Welfare News
I am so pleased to have returned to Sacred Heart as the Welfare Officer for 2020, a role I started in Term 3 of 2019.
While this is my first time working within a school, my studies have been in Community Services, Community Development and Youth Work. I have a passion for contributing positively to my community and care deeply about the emotional wellbeing of others, particularly families.
The Welfare Officer role is funded under the National School Chaplaincy Program 2020-2022. Within this role at Sacred Heart, I assist students with social skills, inclusion, sportsmanship, friendships, self-esteem, empathy, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, community engagement and most importantly the many and varied personal crisis' that children experience.
Additionally, there will be groups facilitated during the year to assist students with specific needs, such as Season’s for Growth, a nationally recognised program for children experiencing grief and loss. Teachers can refer groups of children to me to strengthen and support social interactions.
Your child’s participation in any of the programs is voluntary. Many times, children come to me to discuss issues with a trusted adult, as I am not a counsellor, I will refer serious issues to the school counsellor under the guidance of Mrs Staines.
I thoroughly enjoy my role at Sacred Heart and hope that the children and their parents seek me out should they require support.
