School Information
School Events and using Compass
We would like to clarify different types of events and the communication we send via Compass around them.
There are different types of events:-
1. Compulsory
-
Whole School events - such as carnivals or fundraising days
-
Class excursions
These types of events are compulsory as they involve the entire class and teacher. The cost is usually covered by the Activities Levy. Your consent must be given so you can help your child prepare, update medication needs and consent to the activities nominated. You would only decline a 'complusory' event if you knew your child was going to be absent from school that day.
2. Non-Compulsory
-
Sporting gala days - such as oztag carnival
-
Academic days - such as daVinci or chess competitions
Non-compulsory events are 'optional' or 'invitational' and state this in the information of the event. These events are usually only offered from Yrs 3-6. On Compass, your child will be 'invited' and this is your opportunity to either 'Opt-In' to give consent for your child to participate, or 'Decline' the event for your child to attend school as normal.
If you do not respond to the invitation by the date given, it is assumed that your child will not be participating and you will receive no further information relating to the event.
Once you have accepted the event, all communication is then sent through Compass via email (this is the way Compass works for events). You will often get a notification via the app but you need to check your email. It is through the email where you will find updated information. We work really hard to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information as changes or amendments can happen! It is vital that you are checking the emails that we send, even if it may seem that there are quite a number of them. They are always sent with important information relating to the event.
If you are ever unsure, please always contact the organising teacher or our office to check.
